History of Making Japanese Knife in Sakai

 
Sakai is most famous of making tradtional Japanese knives I Japan. There had been many craft-men of Japanese knives since A.C.1400.

Hagane-tsuke

1. Put a ground metal into a kiln. 2. Take the ground metal out when its end heated in red, and hammer it. 3. Take off a film made on the surface of the ground metal becouse it heated by being hammered and rubbed. 4. Wet the hammer with water and beat again.


5. Cut a Hagane(hard steel) into the appropriate pieces and put those Hagane on the ground metal applying a binder on the Hagane. This is called "Haganetsuke". 6. When "Haganetsuke" was done, put the material into a kiln. The fire of the kiln is generated with the blower, and coke and the crude petroleum, etc. are used as a fuel now.
